A slow, dated WordPress site rebuilt as a
fast, modern magazine.
Inner Space Magazine was paying premium plugin fees for a site that looked old and loaded slowly. We rebuilt it page by page and built the galleries ourselves.

An old site was costing the client
money and readers.
Inner Space publishes psychology articles, story series and photography from contributors worldwide. The website no longer did that content justice.
A dated theme
The design looked old and didn’t match the quality of the writing and photos.
Slow, image-heavy pages
Photo galleries loaded slowly, which frustrates readers and hurts search visibility.
Expensive plugins
Premium gallery plugins brought high recurring fees and extra code that slowed the site further.
A growing library
Articles, series, tours and albums needed a structure that was easy to browse and maintain.
We didn’t patch the old theme.
We rebuilt the foundation.
Find what hurts
Reviewed the theme, plugins and pages to find what cost money and slowed visitors down.
A modern foundation
Chose a current, actively maintained theme that fits the magazine’s editorial style.
Every page recreated
Rebuilt each page from scratch on the new theme, leaving years of old code behind.
Custom galleries
Built lightweight galleries tailored to the content, replacing paid plugins.
Tuned for speed
Removed unneeded plugins and code and prepared images for fast loading.
Live, then supported
Kept the shop and submission forms working and stayed on for ongoing support.
Galleries, forms and checkout,
designed around the content.
Galleries made for the content
Visitors tap a photo to enlarge it and read its caption. The same custom gallery powers the photo series, travel albums and Photo of the Month, with no recurring licence fee.

A gallery hub that loads fast
Favorites, Randoms, Travel, Projects and Photo of the Month all run on one custom-built gallery. It’s quick to open, easy to browse and costs the client nothing in plugin fees.

Clear navigation, easy to browse
Home, About, Ask Ralph, Gallery, Article Archives, Contribute and the Gift Store sit in one simple menu. Series, articles and tours are easy to find from the homepage.

Room for a growing library
Photo series, multi-part tours and the article archive have their own tidy sections, so new albums and stories slot in without slowing the site.

Clear forms people actually finish
Contributors see five simple ways to get involved, then land on a short form with plain labels, an upload field and one obvious button.

Easy, trusted checkout
Shoppers see price, scent notes and size up front, then pay in one click with PayPal, Venmo or Pay Later. Four clear categories keep the gift store simple to browse.

Made for phones too
Most readers browse on a phone, so the site adapts cleanly. The menu collapses into one tap, text stays easy to read and the photo galleries become a tidy two-column grid.

Faster, clearer and
cheaper to run.
No more gallery plugin fees
The custom galleries replaced the paid plugins, so that recurring cost is gone.
Fast loading
Image-heavy pages open quickly, so readers stay and keep browsing.
Clear forms
Simple, easy-to-finish forms for articles, photos and questions.
Easy payments
PayPal, Venmo and Pay Later make buying quick.
A better layout
A modern, clear design that works on phones and is easier to maintain.
“They were able to create artistry out of code and resolve security issues.”
